Staff Spotlight: Jess Puglisi-Sanders

POSTED ON

WHEELING, W.Va. — Jess Puglisi-Sanders, a dedicated program officer, has been an invaluable part of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) since February 2016. Specializing in scholarship administration, she covers a diverse range of fund types, ensuring that each one operates smoothly and effectively.

In her role at CFOV, Jess’s expertise shines through in her management of scholarship programs. She has played a pivotal role in implementing scholarship software, a change that has not only made the process more efficient but also environmentally friendly by significantly reducing paper use. Jess embodies the philosophy of “work smarter, not harder,” a principle that guides her daily efforts to improve operations at CFOV.

Jess’s journey to CFOV is marked by a rich background in education and community relations. After graduating from Wheeling Park High School in 2001 and West Virginia University in 2004, Jess began her career in admissions at Bethany College from 2004 to 2007. She then transitioned to Easterseals, where she served in various community relations roles, eventually becoming the Community Relations Director before joining CFOV in 2016.

Outside of her professional life, Jess is a woman of many interests. She loves spending time at the gym, cooking, learning new things, and sharing laughs. A surprising fact about Jess is her past as a talented trombonist, a skill that adds an intriguing layer to her multifaceted personality.

Jess stays motivated and productive through her inherent Type A personality and her role as the eldest daughter in her family, which she believes has wired her to get things done. She lives by some valuable pieces of advice: “Be useful” – Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Engage brain before speaking” – her dad, and “Paddle your own canoe” – Nick Offerman.

When asked about her goals for the next year, Jess emphasizes her desire to continue moving things in positive, productive, and meaningful ways, with an extra focus on supporting her inner circle to do the same. Her dream travel destinations include Greece and Italy for their rich food, culture, and history; a serene, well-equipped beach for relaxation; and a sea turtle nesting and conservation site to indulge her fascination with her favorite animal.

Jess’s commitment to community service extends beyond her work at CFOV. She also serves on the board of Belco Works and has completed a term as board chair. Additionally, she is a member and past president of the St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary, serving on its board and in district leadership roles. Jess also contributes to the Philanthropy WV board and is the founder and informal chair of a cohort of West Virginia community foundation scholarship managers.
