Food Security Fund
Mission:
As food insecurity continues to grow across the nation and Upper Ohio Valley, the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) is stepping up to meet the challenge. CFOV has launched the Food Security Fund to support nonprofit organizations working to ensure individuals and families across the region have consistent access to healthy, adequate food. With an initial commitment of $100,000, the Food Security Fund will make grants to nonprofits in CFOV’s eight-county service area: Tyler, Wetzel, Marshall, Ohio, Brooke, and Hancock counties in W.Va., and Belmont and Jefferson counties in Ohio.
Funding Priorities:
The Food Security Fund supports local food pantries’ efforts to provide fresh, nutritious foods for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
Priority is given to efforts that address gaps in cold storage, distribution, sourcing, or outreach that result in more frequent or reliable access to healthy food options.
One grant application per organization may be submitted. Grants will be awarded up to $5,000.
*Food pantry is defined as a charitable program that distributes free groceries directly to individuals or families in need on a regular basis. This fund excludes congregate dining, hot, and prepared meals.
Eligibility:
- Eligibility: Organizations must be identified as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or similarly exempt such as faith-based organization, or government entity (i.e. libraries, schools, etc.)
- Serves as a food pantry in the counties of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Tyler, and Wetzel in W.Va., and Belmont and Jefferson counties in Ohio.
- One application may be submitted in a 12 month period. If the organization has received a grant from a different CFOV grant program for food security in a similar timeline, please do not apply.

Next Steps
Applications will be reviewed by CFOV advisory committee. If awarded a grant, you will be notified and a grant agreement will be assigned in the grant portal. Grant reports are due within 12 months of the grant award and can be completed any time once funds are expended. The grant report is accessible in the grant portal shortly after grant is awarded.
