Enhancing Community Life: The ‘Light Up Capstone Soccer Complex’ Project
In Belmont County, the St. Clairsville Area Soccer Association’s ‘Light Up Capstone Soccer Complex’ project shows that targeted community efforts can enhance local amenities and safety. Funded in part by a $10,000 grant from the Belmont County Enrichment Fund, this initiative brought essential improvements to the local soccer facility.
The project focused on installing lights at the Capstone Soccer Complex. The crucial facility improvement addressed safety and usability concerns of the soccer fields into the evening hours. Lova Ebbert, a founder of the Belmont County Enrichment Fund, highlighted the importance of this project, saying, “…that (the project) was so important from the standpoint of the number of young kids that are playing out there and there were no lights.” The installation of lights tackled the pressing issue of poor visibility in parking areas and allowed for scheduling flexibility for games and practices.
The impact of the project goes beyond safety enhancements. It has enhanced the Capstone Soccer Complex’s community activity, offering children and families more opportunities to engage in sports and community events. The extended playing hours have not only allowed more children to participate in soccer but have also fostered a stronger sense of community through increased attendance and involvement. Reflecting on the broader benefits, Lova Ebbert notes, “…the lights are magnificent and bring people to our area.” More than just a facility upgrade, this project represents a commitment to improving community life, ensuring safety, and providing a nurturing environment for youth activities.
